Metabolic demands of the newborn

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Newborns have special metabolic demands, because their metabolism is immature and sensitive. The nurse will get to know the caloric needs of a neonate, the glucose and temperature regulation and some metabolic disorders. The nurses will also learn the metabolic screening for diseases, which is performed in every NICU and the bilirubin metabolism, which is usually disturbed in the first days of life
